Pure Fiction But We Wish It Was Real: O is for Ocampans

If you could have unlimited telepathic potential but could only live half a life would you?

This is a tough one because there may be some sacrifice involved, but the Ocampan race has always been an interesting one.

Star Trek Voyager introduced it’s first Ocampan character in the first episodes when they were sucked through space by the advanced alien named the Caretaker. He took the responsibility of caring for the race after he accidentally damaged their homeworld’s environment.

The species matures quickly and dies around the age of seven. Over time the writers reveal that not only can they up to fourteen years but that their telepathic ability has the potential to be much greater than most of them know.

The character of Kess who is a member of the crew until the Borg female Seven arrives (hmm, seven seems to be a theme…). Her departure from the show was an emotional one but also an elightened one. She becomes so powerful that her physical form and the ship can no longer hold her. This twist was unexpected but satisfying end to her time on the show, and thus making my A-Z list of aliens I wish were real.

If you had to choose would you rather live longer or have a superpower and why?
