A-Z Challenge Ender’s Game

Q is for Ender’s Game (The Ender Quintet)

Yeah we know, some of these letters had to be stretched a little but we wanted to make sure to include Ender’s Game on our list. We’ve read all five and we’ve seen the movie. The books were better in this case but the movie did a good job of telling the story. The books are a little long but the movie is great for those who are fans of science fiction but have a hard time imagining the worlds.

Have you read the series what did you think? This series has a lot of strong themes what stood out to you?

  1. I’ve read them all. Have you gone to all the Shadow of books and the Formic Wars books? He’s opened up a lot of things. Most of it works, and length never bothers me as long as there’s a reason for it. (Case in point: tried reading Stephan King’s “Sleeping Beauties”. I got to page 500 or so and just couldn’t do it anymore. Flipped to the end: yup, bad ending that just tossed away characters).

As to the movie, I don’t hate it, but I don’t think it was the best representation of the book. To me, many science fiction books are not made for a two hour (give or take) retelling. I’d rather see them serialized on a TV or streaming platform, allowing the story and characters to breathe.

  2. Q is a challenge. This works. I haven’t read this quintet or seen the movie — it’s on the list!

  3. I’m another one who has read them all. I’m working my way through the prequel books at the moment. It’s crazy how many books are set in this world. Ender’s Game and Speaker for the Dead will always be my favorites though. Melanie’s Stories
